about yoga nidra

Yoga Nidra, or yogic sleep, is a guided relaxation practice that is typically practiced lying down. This accessible form of meditation is fully guided, meaning there is a lot of talking, many invitations, and some space to drop in.

"Yogic sleep" is a little bit of a misnomer - you might fall asleep during this practice, you might stay awake the whole time, and you might experience a space between awake and asleep. This space feels a bit like the moment right before you fall asleep, when you might think of the perfect thing to say or get clarity about something that's been bothering you.

This space is subconscious, so you may or may not remember every single word that's said, or even your thoughts during the practice. Because of this, I loke to keep a pen and paper near me when I practice, so if I do get an insight during or after the practice, I can quickly write it down before it vanishes.

There is no right or wrong way to practice Yoga Nidra. However, the harder you "try" to get into the in-between space, the less likely it is you'll get there. See if you can surrender to the practice and let it carry you on the adventure - it will be unique this time, and different next time.
